Hotel yang sepenuhnya ditutupi dengan sampah tersebut dibuka di Ibukota Spanyol, Madrid.
Seniman Jerman Ha Schult membuat lima kamar tidur hotel di tengah alun-alun de Callao sebagai bagian dari perayaan Turisme Internasional (Fitur).
Schult mengatakan bahwa dia berharap dapat menarik perhatian dengan membuat tumpukan sampah yang besar oleh para turis di Eropa.
"Saya membuat Hotel Beach Garbage karena lautan dan planet kita merupakan pembuangan sampah terbesar," ujarnya, seperti dilansir AFP, Kamis (20/1/2011).
Sekira 30-40 persen barang-barang ditemukan di rumah sementara di pantai di Inggris, Prancis, Jerman, Italia dan Spanyol.
Juru bicara proyek tersebut, Rose Piqueras, mengatakan bahwa tujuan dari proyek ini untuk menunjukkan sesuatu yang kontras dari gambaran industri turisme.
"Kami ingin menunjukkan bahwa liburan kita bisa menjadi yang tidak bersih untuk pantai-pantai kita," ujarnya, dengan menambahkan bahwa pantai di selatan Italia merupakan yang terparah.
